State Championship Rules

TOURNAMENT RULES AND REGULATIONS


FORMAT OF PLAY WILL BE ROUND ROBIN in each division or group.  The following  format will be used to determine the State Winner, if there is more than one group in a level.

a.        Two Division  Group I winner will play Group II winner
b.        Three Divisions A Wildcard will be drawn from the Three Division’s
            Runners Up and a Semi-Finals and Finals will be  Played.
c.        Four Divisions Group Winners will play Semi-Finals, then those winners 
            will play in the Finals

TEAM MATCHES for both Adult and Seniors be three individual matches:
                      
DETERMINATION OF STATE WINNERS will be by the following method.  The team that wins the majority of individual match points in a team match will be awarded ONE TEAM POINT.  The Team winning with the most TEAM POINTS will be declared the winner (in Group, Semi-Finals and Finals)        
PROCEDURES IN THE EVENT OF A TIE: In the event of a tie, the tie shall be broken by the first of the following procedures that does so:
     a.   INDIVIDUAL MATCHES; Winner of the most individual matches.
     b.   SETS: Loser of the fewest number of sets
     c.   GAMES: Loser of the fewest number of games
     d.   HEAD TO HEAD:  Winner of Head to Head
     e.   SPIN OF RACQUET:  Winner of the Spin, Captain of one team will spin and opposing captain will call.

MATCH PLAY:  PLAYERS MUST ABIDE BY ALL STA AND SCTA STATE LEAGUE REGULATIONS.
 
TENNIS BALLS:  The official championship ball is PENN.  NEW BALLS WILL NOT BE GIVEN FOR THE MATCH TIEBREAK.

SURFACE:  Each Level will play all their matches outdoors on the same surface, all clay or all hard.  However, different Levels may play on different surfaces.

DEFAULT TIME: Will be 15 minutes.  The Point Penalty System will be IN EFFECT.

WARM-UP:  Including practice serves, will be limited to 10 minutes

SCORING: Will be the best of TWO Sets using regular scoring with 12 point tiebreak when the games reach six-all in either set.  In Lieu of the third set a Match Tiebreak will be used to determine the Winner of the match.  The Match Tie-Break is played just like the 12 point Tiebreak except the Winner is determined by the First Team Scoring 10 points by a margin of 2.  The Match Tiebreak will count as one set and one game for scoring purposes

There will be NO BREAK between the second and third set. COACHING IS NOT ALLOWED AT ANY TIME.    

A player may play on multiple Levels at the State Championships. There will not be any scheduling consideration given for players on multiple Levels or teams.

A Team must play a Local League Season in order to advance to the State Championships.  The SLC will assign a team to a different Local League when the Local League does not have the required number of teams (2 teams) to constitute a level.

The number of teams, at each Local Level, that may advance to the State Championships are as follows:
  2-12    Teams                One team
13-24    Teams               Two Teams
 25 or     More                 Three Teams

A $200.00 Deposit is required of each team entering the State Championships. The deposit will be returned to the team if the team completes all matches scheduled for them.

PLEASE NOTE: In case of Excessive Rain or Other Major Problems, the Tournament Committee Reserves the Right to Alter the format of play, change the surface, change the scoring method used or terminate the team match when one team as won the majority of individual match points.
