2006 Spring Guidelines

LATA Kids Team Tennis

Spring 2006

General Guidelines

  • The goal of the Lexington Area Tennis Association is the promotion and support of children as they begin a lifetime of playing tennis.
  • For the Spring, there will be 3 age divisions and levels within each age division:
    1. 12 & under
      • Beginner
      • Intermediate
    2. 14 & under
      • Intermediate
    3. 18 & under (A player cannot be 18 when the season begins)
      • Intermediate
  • Intermediate level has players with skill levels of 3.0 & below. Advanced level has players with skill levels of 3.5 & above. Level of play is based on JNTRP guidelines in the USA Team Tennis application.
  • Much like a sanctioned tournament play, once a player ages up, they are no longer eligible to play in the former age division. Parents, coaches and players should consider the age division of play if a player has a birthday mid-season.
  • *A player ranked in the top 25% of their age group may not play at the Intermediate level of that age group.*
  • The format of play will be: boys & girl’s singles, boys & girl’s doubles and a mixed doubles. Each team will determine a clinic/practice schedule.
  • The season will begin March 24, 2006.
  • Play day will be Fridays at 5 p.m. with a rain makeup to be played prior to the next scheduled match. Coaches can both agree to play the makeup match at an alternate date, site, and time. Once the date, time and play site is determined, the match must be played and cannot be changed unless of another rainout! Any team who fails to show up at a scheduled makeup match will result in a total team forfeit. Coaches, please confirm makeup’s with your opposing team coach as soon as possible.
  • Scores will be cumulative; therefore, the score could be 24-18 for example. Please record scores via the direct link to score entry, on-line, at www.usta.com under USA Team Tennis.
  • Coaching is allowed during changeovers, but only by the Head Coach or Assistant. Coaching by parents is NOT ALLOWED! Coaches and spectators should not assist is making line calls or keeping score.
  • The home team will provide balls, 2 balls per court of play. Warm up is limited to 5 minutes.
  • Each team should provide refreshments for their own players. Coaches are urged to have a “Refreshment Coordinator” volunteer to coordinate this task.
  • LATA will provide T-shirts and balls for home matches.
  • Awards will be given to the winning teams in their respective divisions.

State Playoffs

  • Division winners from the Spring 2006 season and Fall 2005 season will qualify for the State USA Team Tennis Playoffs in Summer 2007.
  • Please feel free to contact Karen Holzschuh at the LATA office at 951-0980 or LATAoffice@alltel.net with any questions.
