USTA Southern Announces 2010 Annual Award Recipients

USTA Southern has announced its recipients for the 2010 awards given for tennis excellence on and off the court. With over 25 categories, winners will be recognized during the USTA Southern Annual Meeting in January at the Atlanta Perimeter Marriott Hotel in Atlanta, Ga. The awards presentation is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011.
 
Volunteer members of the Awards Subcommittee and numerous other USTA Southern committees have selected winners from candidates nominated by USTA district staff and volunteers in the nine states which represent the section.
 
Winners of two of the most prestigious awards – the Jacobs Bowl and the Charlie B. Morris Jr. Service Award – will not be announced until the Southern Tennis Hall of Fame banquet on the evening of Saturday, Jan. 22.

QuickStart Workshop Scheduled
 
LATA is hosting a QuickStart worshop on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 9:30a.m.  - 1:00 p.m.
Cost is $10.00 or FREE for LATA QuickStart coaches!
 
The  USTA QuickStart Workshop is designed to train parents, older junior players, tennis instructors, PE teachers and any community members who want to learn how to teach or coach the USTA's new "play to learn" QuickStart Tennis format for kids.

2010 USTA South Carolina award winners announced

 
The annual awards given by USTA South Carolina are intended to recognize individuals, clubs and other organizations who made outstanding contributions to tennis.  There are numerous awards for adults, juniors, organizations and companies.  Award winners are chosen based on their accomplishments during the year preceding the September award nomination deadline.  Award winners are recognized during the USTA SC Annual Meeting, which is held on the second weekend of December.

LATA Recognized at the US Open

Nancy Powell, member of the Lexington Area Tennis Association, was accompanied by a few of her adult clinic students to the US Open.  Community Tennis Associations that visited the US Open, received VIP treatment.  Nancy and her students received a behind the scenes tour of Arthur Ashe and were able to view the players lounge and dining area as well as the media center. "Nothing like walking up the stairs to the players and passing Clijsters coming down. What a treat! ".
